The Merezzate+ walking bus service is about to start!

April 2021

The walking bus (pedibus) service, part of Merezzate+ mobility pillar, is starting in some pilot classes in the two primary schools of the area where REDO Merezzate is located:

  • the first pilot line of Pasquale Sottocorno primary school will start in the morning of Friday April 16th,
  • San Giovanni Bosco primary school will start in the morning of Monday April 19th with 3 pilot lines.

The walking bus is a group of kids going to school together, accompanied by some volunteering parents, that follows a given path, defined stops and a timetable. Along the walk, children can socialise and learn about road safety, gaining independence.

The walking bus has the aim to raise children (and their parents) to move in a greener and healthier way: the schools are 1,5 km away from REDO Merezzate, a walkable distance. Going to school on foot with the walking bus instead of using polluting transport means has not only the advantage of improving the air quality of our city but also the health and wellbeing of kids that, during the path, can socialise with their schoolmates and learn about road safety, gaining independence.

The service, promoted and designed by Consorzio Poliedra, was able to start thanks to the collaboration of some of the Merezzate+ project key stakeholders: the Municipality of Milan, Education, Mobility and Urban Security Department (in charge for the local Police, the two School Institutions, the neighbourhood association “Spazio Melotti” and the parents’ committees of the involved schools.
